How did the Citroen BX 4TC suck? Let me count the ways:
1: it didn’t enter the WRC until 1986, years after the competition.
2: it was over 100 horsepower down and 100 kg up on the field.
3: it managed seven starts in three events, retiring from six and finishing sixth in the one event it did finish. Then Group B was cancelled.
4: Citroen was only able to sell about 60 of the 200 homologation specials they built. Most had to be bought back and destroyed due to poor build quality.

I remember a few years back they found a trailer still loaded with 6 or 8 of these that were set to be destroyed but Citroen never got around to it. I believe the Lane's example came from that find.

Believe it or not, the C i t r o ën hydro suspension is, by far, extremely reliable.
In the 70s an SM won the Rally du Maroc outright:
